What follows is a note of caution about insurance coverage of this dryer, which may or may not affect you. This is NOT a review of the dryer itself, because I can't have one for insurance reasons (see below). But Amazon requires a star rating, so I've put 3 stars solely to indicate my neutrality.
In the past, LG washers and dryers were safety tested by UL (Underwriters Laboratories), like most appliances made by US manufacturers. But in 2008 LG switched testing labs for their dryers, they told me; the current generation of LG dryers are now tested by CSA (Canadian Standards Association) instead. (LG washers are still tested by UL). UL also confirmed that this dryer is not UL listed.
Does it matter? UL (the oldest and largest US testing lab) and CSA are both OSHA-approved "nationally recognized testing laboratories", and CSA evidently tests this dryer to the same standard (UL 2158) as UL itself uses for dryers. But the issue isn't safety, it's insurance: the two labs are not always equal in the way they're viewed by insurance companies, at least in the US.
If your home's insurance policy is with an insurer that accepts only UL-listed appliances, you may run the risk of not being covered if there were a dryer-related home fire. The company insuring my home told me it will accept only the UL listing, so this LG dryer isn't an option for me.
Are other US home insurers more flexible about testing labs? I certainly hope so, and I think LG wouldn't have switched labs if they weren't confident of CSA's acceptance. But in view of my experience, you might want to consider checking with your insurance company to confirm that it accepts the CSA listing in lieu of UL, before making a purchase decision. (Besides, knowing your insurer's position on testing labs is useful for future reference, when buying other appliances.) And if it does accept the CSA listing, I'm envious, and I hope you enjoy the dryer.
